Yang Kyo, formerly known as Yang Yusi, is a distinguished violinist and music educator. She began the violin at three and entered the Xinghai Conservatory's affiliated secondary school in Guangzhou at twelve. In 2002, she was exceptionally admitted to the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, earning Master's degrees with all-distinction results and the Excellence and Karajan Scholarships.
In Europe, she served as principal of numerous orchestras and performed with conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Riccardo Muti and André Previn. She settled in Hong Kong in 2009, joining the Hong Kong Sinfonietta the following year.
With over fifteen years of teaching across Mainland China, Austria, Italy and Hong Kong, she now also teaches at Hong Kong Baptist University. Her individualised, inquiry-based teaching stresses fundamentals, score-reading and sight-reading, and interest-driven learning. Many students have entered leading institutions such as the New England Conservatory and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
In 2016, she founded the charity Hong Kong Society of Arts and Charity Limited (文善社) and co-founded the Greater Bay Area Philharmonic. With over one thousand volunteer musicians, she has delivered more than four hundred free performances to over one hundred thousand audience members. In 2020, she received the Secretary for Home Affairs' Commendation, and in 2021 the Medal of Honour (MH).
