Background

Vision 

This Food Innovation Centre project is organised by Technological and Higher Educational Institute (THEi) and funded by the Trade and Industrial Organisation Support Fund of the Trade and Industry Department, HKSAR Government.

 

With the establishment of Food Innovation Centre(FIC), food industrial companies would be beneficial:

With the food industry in mind, FIC supports the food industry such as local food and drinks manufacturers, food caterers, food traders and wholesalers in developing new and innovative food products with applications of advanced taste sensing and analysis and shelf-life stability test through professional and innovative equipment - Electronic Sensing System. Companies in the food industry can re-formulate the ingredients of existing food products with natural and healthy ingredients. Besides, companies in food industry can use the Electronic Sensing System to prepare their taste sensory data of their food products, either through new formulations or new packaging processes in order to present to potential customers. 

 

 

Mission 

Through the establishment of FIC, FIC aims to enhance the competitiveness of the food industry and to reinforce Hong Kong’s reputation as a “ Gourmet Paradise” of the world. FIC are mainly contributed to provide education, training services and conduct pilot studies for helping the local food industry to develop their innovative products and processes.

 

 

Values  

FIC will be the first of its kind in Hong Kong to provide a full range of taste sensing analysis in both quantitative and qualitative methods for helping food companies to improve their existing products and production processes in a highly competitive market. More strategic values of the FIC are to support the food industry in fostering a high standard of food products in terms of the sensory characteristics, i.e. aroma, flavor, texture, while balancing the product nutrients with the confine of the packaging design. Through these sensory characteristics, it can help their food products to be able to share certain portion in the competitive leading market.
