As a result of its sheer global impact and scale, COVID-19 has unintentionally become a change agent that has activated, accelerated, and shaped the future of learning. As we emerge out of the pandemic and transition to a new normal, what are the innovations and shifts being made by educators, institutions and agencies that are likely to transform the future of learning?

 

As economies gear-up, re-establish and look to accelerate in the wake of COVID-19, the demand for a highly skilled and technologically adept workforce is expected to increase: 

  • How is the applied degree sector responding to this demand? 
  • What were the biggest challenges and opportunities for institutions and how are leaders (VCs, Presidents, Deans) now planning on navigating the future?
  • How is the applied degree sector responding to the need to up-skill and re-skill disenfranchised workers?
  • Given the rapid technological acceleration that has occurred in the education sector and across industries and the world of work, what is the ‘new normal’ for applied degree learning and teaching?
  • What changes to the traditional paradigm will be put in play to optimize student access, engagement, and success?
  • How are local and global themes such as sustainability, innovation and technology, entrepreneurship and the need for future-ready skills and multiliteracies being integrated into curricula and institutional agendas?
  • What does the future of learning look like and how is it the same or different from what we know now?

 

This edited volume cordially invites submissions on a wide range of topics, collected from actual case studies, reflective essays, as well as authentic examples shared around the globe. Chapters that focus on the ways in which institutions and educators are transitioning and adapting to new ways of engaging with learners and industries in response to Industry 4.0 and the need to upskill and reskill in the context of lifelong learning will be of particular interest.

Abstract Submission (Due by 15 March 2021)

Please submit 150 words abstract to EasyChair. The edited book accepts original work reporting on applied research results, case studies or novel applications, reflective essays, as well as authentic examples. The abstract should clearly state the purpose/objective, the key problem/questions addressed, the hypotheses (if any), the method, the findings/outcomes, and the implications/impacts.

Authors will be notified on or before 15 April 2021 of the accepted abstracts. Authors will be invited to submit the full paper by 15 June 2021.

 

Full Paper Submission (Due by 15 June 2021)

(By invitation only)

Accepted abstracts will be invited to submit a full paper with 10 – 20 pages, with a word limit of 8,000 words. The full paper will be preliminarily screened by the editors for suitability and then undergo a blind review process. Accepted full papers will be included in an independent volume of the Lecture Notes in Educational Technology (LNET) series, published by Springer (subject to approval).

In order to be considered, a book chapter must be sent by email to thei-lc@thei.edu.hk in Word DOC/DOCX format (Subject: AETI2021 Book Chapter Submission), including the title, the authors' name, email and affiliation, an abstract (120-150 words), keywords (6), headings/subheadings (no numbering), in-text citation, references (APA, no numbering), authors' bio (50-80 words). Footnotes should be avoided.

The first International Conference on Applied Education, Technology and Innovation welcomes abstracts from academics and practitioners, industry partners, education entrepreneurs and innovators engaging with Education 4.0 with breakthrough stories to tell.

 

Education 4.0 refers to the shifts in the education sector in response to Industry 4.0 where digital transformation is impacting the ways in which the world of work and our everyday lives are becoming increasingly automated.  In the applied degree sector, significant change and transformation is occurring as leaders, educators and partners evolve SMART campus environments to include blended learning, artificial intelligence, data analytics, BYOD devices, process automation and engage in curriculum renewal for and with industries and professions. 

 

In initiating the International Conference on Applied Education, Technology and Innovation series, THEi Hong Kong seeks to evolve a global community of practice to share case studies, engage in critical discussion and spearhead thought leadership to address the paradigm shift in new generation educational practice.  Increasingly, institutions across the applied degree sector are addressing technology and innovation as the triggers to transform higher education to ensure more fit for purpose outcomes in preparing students for the world of work and life-long learning.  As we engage in this transformation, what are the innovation pedagogies informing student success? How are new generation technologies shaping institutional development, curriculum refresh and student learning journeys? How are institutional leaders pro-actively shifting gears to shape the future of education? How are industry and students as partners becoming more involved in applied research? What are the impacts of Education 4.0 on applied degree education outcomes?

 

The Conference theme for 2019 is “Education 4.0: Applied Degree Education and the Future of Work”. The Conference aims to profile and enhance the contribution of applied educational practice and research particularly in the applied degree sector as it relates to the future of work.  Selected conference papers will be included in an independent volume of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) series, published by Springer as a post-conference edited book. Contributions that show case real world outcomes with students and industry as partners are most welcome. The Conference will include keynote addresses, panel discussion, breakthrough case studies and paper presentations.
