(Hong Kong, 15 May 2025) – Preventing cybersecurity threats for local businesses has become a critical priority. A recent report indicates that unstable supply chain security and AI-generated content pose significant risks (1) <\/span>in Hong Kong. To address these cybersecurity needs, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading local AI Enabler and cybersecurity companies on 9 May. These collaborations aim to enhance the security of THEi\u2019s hardware and software while proactively predicting and mitigating potential threats. Through collaborative applied research projects, THEi seeks to raise awareness of cybersecurity and data sovereignty within the academic and business communities, ultimately improving response capabilities.<\/p>\n

The first MoU focuses on leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies such as building large language model (LLM), utilising GPU as Service (GPUaaS) and local dedicated storage to jointly safeguard user privacy and data sovereignty. In addition, by developing a dedicated AI Agent \u201cAskTHEi\u201d, the institution’s domain knowledge is securely contained within its own platform. The MoU was signed by Prof Alan LAU Kin-tak, President of THEi, and Mr Charles LEE, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of OneAsia Network Limited.<\/p>\n

Another MoU centres on enhancing the Institute\u2019s teaching hardware and software, while jointly launching applied research projects and organising educational initiatives related to cybersecurity. The MoU was signed by Prof Alan LAU, President of THEi, and Mr Michael GAZELEY, Managing Director of Network Box.<\/p>\n

Prof Alan LAU noted that while cybersecurity challenges pose risks of data breaches, they also offer opportunities for transformation and innovation. With their long-standing presence in Hong Kong, he believes Network Box and OneAsia Network Limited are well-acquainted with the local network ecosystem. Through educational initiatives and simulated cyberattacks, the collaborations aim to enhance data security and business resilience, enabling industries to swiftly adapt to cyber threats while fostering diverse industry growth.<\/p>\n

He believes such collaboration can showcase the advantages of institutional and industry collaborations, cultivating cybersecurity professionals equipped with the practical knowledge and skills that society and businesses require.<\/p>\n

In addition, on the same day, THEi hosted a forum titled \u201cHow to Protect Your Organization’s Data from Theft or Misuse\u201d to help businesses understand how to respond to cyber threats. Mr Dennis TAM, Head of Presales of OneAsia Network Limited, and Mr Michael GAZELEY, Managing Director of Network Box, were invited to deliver keynote speeches. They emphasised the significance of data sovereignty in the current AI era and offered strategies for organisations to defend against cybersecurity threats like hacking and malware, while maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness.<\/p>\n

To align with the development of applied sciences, THEi will launch the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Cyber Security and the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Music Technology and Management in the academic year 2025-26, aiming to cultivate talent with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
