Oliver是坎布里亞大學 (University of Cumbria) 歷史系的畢業生,他的本科研究探討公共領域的歷史,包括專注比較獨裁者希特拉 (Hitler) 和斯大林 (Stalin),以及有關西班牙內戰的論文。他的研究興趣是政治和軍事歷史,尤其是美國南北內戰。他現時的研究集中探討學生自主學習的各種教學方法;他的碩士論文專注研究同儕互評對學生自主學習的影響。
