TITLE :

Term Research Assistant I

Major Duties:

The appointee will support and contribute to high-impact research initiatives in the development of novel materials for electrochemistry, catalysis and environmental applications.

Key responsibilities include:

(1) Designing experimental protocols and conducting experiments related to novel application in electrochemical, catalytic and environmental applications;
(2) Synthesising, characterising, and conducting performance evaluations of the synthesised materials; and
(3) Analysing experimental data and preparing reports, presentations, and dissemination materials.

Requirements:

The successful candidate should possess a recognised Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline; or a recognised degree in a relevant discipline with relevant work experience.  The candidate should have a proven track record in:

(1) Materials Design and Synthesis: Expertise in the design and synthesis of materials for electrochemistry, catalysis, and environmental applications, with knowledge of material structural tuning and compositional optimisation;

(2) Material Characterisation: Proficiency in advanced material characterisation techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis-NIR Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR);

(3) Performance Evaluation and Data Analysis: Experience in designing and conducting performance tests, including electrochemical evaluations, activity / selectivity tests, and ageing tests to determine stability and durability, with expertise in corresponding data analysis; and

(4) 3D Printing: Candidates with knowledge and experience in 3D printing will have an advantage.


Notes:

(1) The appointee will be offered an initial appointment for a period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
(2) The appointee may be required to perform duties at different locations, including outside Hong Kong, and to work irregular hours, shifts, and weekends, as necessary.
(3) The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
(4) The appointee will mainly work at the Chai Wan Campus, and also be required to travel to Chinese Mainland to perform duties.
