Abstract
Are you interested in starting your own company and creating your own brand? In this era of diversity, both in the virtual and realistic world, there are many kinds of services and industrial aspects that are waiting for us to explore them. While start-ups may be fresh and interesting, many find it challenging, risky and are even discouraged from trying. The challenges come in all forms from cash flow, family support, choosing the right investors, knowing, choosing and utilizing the appropriate tools, and hiring the right people to say the least. Despite the many challenges one may encounter during a start-up, there are ways to prepare oneself to face them. In this talk, Tim Chan, a start-up expert who has founded several companies and is experienced with some of the tools for start-ups, is going to share his experience in founding his company and offer tips for facing different challenges during the start-up phase.

As the founder of Growth Marketer Academy (which promotes actionable growth tactics to marketers and founders in Asia) and HelloReporter & HelloPR (which leverages technology to support PR for startups & SMEs, Tim Chan is experienced in the area of start-ups. His previous ventures had attracted investment from Telerik – an investor of from the Silicon Valley. He has also joined incubators ions and accelerators in Hong Kong and Taiwan – to name a few: Appworks, Cyberport, Google EYE, and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in the Social Innovation Center (HKFYG SIC). Not only is he the leader of Tech in Asia (HK Chapter), Marketing Tech, Cyberport Startup Alumni Foundation, the vice-president of CUHK Alumni Entrepreneurs Network, he is also the founder and curator of various projects and communities with buddies partners/associates/friends/colleagues such as Seedstar World HK & SZ, CMX HK, Influencer Insider, TeDxHKBU and Code4HK.
