Guest Seminar on ‘The Business of Tourism’ by Mr. Richard Willis – for Hotel Operations Management programme

While hotel is part of the tourism industry, It is essential for students to learn about the current tourism development in Hong Kong and worldwide. It is our great honour to have invited the industry guru Mr. Richard Willis to share his experiences on 16 February, 2015. During the guest seminar, Mr. Willis has presented the outlooks and challenges of tourism and he has discussed the trends of digital marketing. He has also shared his words of wisdom for students to prepare themselves to work in the future. During the Q&A sessions, students were very active in asking questions.
Mr. Richard Willis’s biography
Mr. Willis has been engaged with the travel and tourism industries for nearly 40 years. After completing his tenure as the Managing Director of P&O Travel Ltd. responsible for the Asia Pacific region in 2005, he was appointed Non-Executive Chairman of Kuoni Travel (China) as well as Kuoni’s Senior Consultant for strategic projects in China until June 2009 at which time he took up part-time lecturing in tourism studies until today.
He is currently the Executive Director of Tourism Management Consulting Ltd. - a company he established in September 2009 specializing in tourism development, research and training. Clients include the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Bal du Moulin Rouge etc. He is also engaged by the Vigor Travel Group (a subsidiary of Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Ltd) as Corporate Development Director
A recipient of the Key to Britain Award and World Travel Market Global Award, Mr. Willis has been associated and served in various capacities with various travel industry associations (such as HATA, TIC, PATA etc.) and organizations including the HKSAR Government's Tourism Strategy Group and the Advisory Committee on the Cruise Industry. He was conferred an Honorary Fellow by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in recognition of his contribution to the travel and tourism industry over the years.
