Seminar 1 – “Urban Soil Science” in Seminar Series “Arboriculture and Sustainable Urban Forest Management”

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Horticulture and Landscape Management (HLM) held the first seminar “Urban Soil Science” of the seminar series “Arboriculture and Sustainable Urban Forest Management” on 4 May 2019 (Sat) in THEi Chai Wan Campus. The seminar series aims to promote good practices of arboriculture and sustainable urban forest management in our community through serving as a platform to allow interflow of professional information among local and overseas experts. It is fully funded by the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China (Project no.: UGC/IIDS25/M01/18)

 

At the beginning of the seminar, Dr Carrie YAU, GBS, JP, Executive Director of the VTC, delivered a welcome speech and Ms Florence KO, Head of Tree Management Office, Development Bureau, gave an opening address. Prof Kwai Cheong CHAU from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prof Nicholas DICKINSON from Lincoln University, Christchurch, Prof Ganlin ZHANG from Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr Alessandro OSSOLA from Macquarie University, Sydney and Dr Allen ZHANG, programme leader of Horticulture and Landscape Management and Principal Investigator of the seminar series, shared their expertise and experience in management of urban soils. More than 170 participants attended the seminar, including people from the HKSAR government, industry and academia.  Participants gained insight from the speakers and had the valuable opportunity to interact with the speakers in the panel discussion.

 

The next seminar "Pests, Diseases and Tree Decline" of the seminar series will be held on 10 Aug 2019 (Sat).
