The seminar-cum-workshop “Sustainable Practices in Parks and Gardens” was held on 24 Aug and 28 Aug 2020 in form of webinar. It was the third of “Knowledge Exchange Programme for Enhancing Urban Horticulture Industry: Expediting Technologies and Sustainability Mindset Series”. It is hoped that the series can help exchange urban horticulture technology between overseas and local professionals, advocate current urban horticultural practice with sustainable measures, and explore Hong Kong urban horticulture market in term of international level. There were around 250 participants attended our webinar in each session, including professionals and practitioners from the industry, students and people from academia, also overseas attendees.

In session 1, there were three overseas speakers. Ms. Maria BOEY Yuet Mei from Singapore was our first speaker. She is the President of Institute of Parks and Recreation, Singapore. She used the examples of a wide range of green spaces in Singapore to explain how to achieve different sustainability goals through different design elements. Second speaker was Dr. Mike MAUNDER, Executive Director of Cambridge Conservation Initiative. He has shown participants various successful examples around the world to demonstrate the realization of regenerative city through innovative and well-designed green space. Dr. DAI Seping, Associate Dean of Guangzhou Institute of Forestry and Landscape Architecture, was our last speaker of session 1. She shared some work of her teams on development of plant resources. There were two local speakers in session 2. Ms. Colleen CHIU from Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve, Environmental Association and Mr. Edmond WONG from Ma Wan Park introduced in details the sustainable practices in the sites they managed.
