To broaden students’ global horizons, THEi co-organised a two-week environmental study visit with MIT-China Educational Technology Initiative. During the visit, 7 MIT students and 16 THEi students from 4 programmes (Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Management, Food Science and Safety, and Horticulture and Landscape Management) worked on a collaborative project to assess the environmental impact of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Project.

Students made a field trip to Lantau Island to collect samples of sand, sea water and microorganism for laboratory testing. They also had group discussion and dynamic analysis of the bridge structure and the environmental damages caused by the bridge construction.

In order for students to gain better understandings of practical measures for enhancing power quality, as well as the eco-building design and technologies, students also paid visits to Power Quality Workshop of CLP and Zero Carbo Building (ZCB) in Kowloon Bay.

The visit not only includes academic activities, but also cultural ones. MIT students held different seminars for THEi students covering different topics related to science, engineering and culture. Students also visited Tao Heung Museum of Food to know more about Guangdong food culture.

The study visit promotes academic and cultural exchange through hands-on applications of science and technology. THEi students are able to gain more knowledge, understand different cultures and widen their international perspectives through the real-life collaborative project and interactions with MIT students
