Programme Aims

This programme aims to equip students with the theoretical, technical and professional skills and knowledge in horticulture and arboriculture management, landscape construction and maintenance, related sciences of plants, arboriculture and the environment, and sustainable landscape management.  It will prepare students to perform the roles and tasks related to horticultural and arboricultural supervision, tree assessment, landscape management, and development of landscapes and conservation of the environment.

Career Prospects

Upon completion of the programme, graduates may be employed as arborist, tree risk assessor, tree works supervisor, landscape supervisor, landscape and horticulture project manager, green roof and vertical greening project supervisor, turfgrass manager, horticulture and tree specialist, industry business and technical representative, horticultural or landscape consultant and educator, etc.

Professional Recognition

With 1-3 years of work experience, graduates are eligible to apply for memberships of :

1. Certified Arborist of the International Society of Arboriculture (USA)
2. Accredited Arborist of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects
3. Technician or Professional Membership of the Arboricultural Association (UK)
4. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (UK)

Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors

This programme is in the Government's Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP). Please click here for more details. The following students are eligible to this SSSDP subsidy (Students under the SSSDP will receive subsidies $44,950 per annum. The subsidy is tenable for the normal duration of the programme):

• Year 1 Entry (both via JUPAS and Non-JUPAS route) (Full-time)
• Year 2 Entry (Full-time)
• Year 3 Entry (Full-time)

Admission to the subsidised places for Year-1 Entry will be through the Joint University Programmes-Admissions System (JUPAS) (JUPAS Catalogue No.: JSSV07) or for Non-JUPAS local applicants via VTC Web-based Admissions System.

Admission to the subsidised places for Year-2 Entry and Year-3 (Full-time) Entry can be made through VTC Web-based Admissions System.

Remarks: The Year-3 (Part-time) Entry are self-financed places. Admission to the self-financed places for Year-3 (Part-time) Entry can be made through VTC Web-based Admissions System.

Programme-specific Requirements:

1. For HKDSE, a maximum of two Applied Learning (ApL) subjects can be counted for admission purpose.  Relevant ApL subjects include: Image Design, Environmental Engineering, Building Facilities Engineering, Building Technology, Creative Advertising, Public Relations and Communication, Entrepreneurship for SME, Marketing and Online Promotion, Animal Care, Foundation in Chinese Medicine, Health Care Practice, Medical Laboratory Science, Applied Psychology, Practical Psychology, Exercise Science and Health Fitness, Electrical and Energy Engineering, Railway Studies, Display and Jewellery Design, The Essential of Theatre Arts, Film and Transmedia, Accounting for e-Business, Child Care and Development, Constructing Smart Cities, Digital Comic Design and Production, PR and Multimedia Communication, Data Application for Business, Airport Passenger Terminal Operations, Exercise and Fitness Coaching, Tech Basics, Popular Music Production, Digital Media and Radio Production, Food Innovation and Science, Rehabilitation Care Practice, eSports Technology, Applied Learning (Vocational English) – English for Service Professionals, and Applied Learning (Vocational English) – English Communication.
2. Applicants may be required to attend an interview.

Entrance Requirements for Year 2:

Associate Degree qualifications in basic science

Remarks:

1. Additional core modules may be required (with fee charged) for sub-degree graduates according to the educational background of individuals.
2. All applicants are screened and selected by an Admission and Interview Panel.  All interviews are conducted in English.

Entrance Requirements for Year 3:
A. Higher Diploma OR equivalent sub-degree qualifications/studies in a relevant area of study;

OR

B. A relevant Professional Diploma or Advanced Diploma* qualifications with five years of relevant working experience

Tuition Fee

• The tuition fees are charged according to the number of credit points taken during a semester.
• The tuition fee for academic year 2023/24 is $3,175 per credit point. Tuition fees are subject to annual reviews.
   

Our programme is a recognized programme of the Study Sponsorship Scheme under the Urban Forestry Support Fund.

Scholarship — full-time programme

The levels of scholarship to be granted to an eligible applicant: HK$50,000 for each academic year

Study Sponsorship — part-time programme

The levels of study sponsorship to be granted to an eligible applicant: HK$20,000 (one-off)
