Dr. Allen Zhang holds a PhD in Biology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He joined THEi in 2014 and currently serves as the Associate Professor in the Department of Construction, Environment and Engineering.

With a strong commitment to urban sustainability, ecology, and forestry, Dr. Zhang has actively engaged in various research projects throughout his academic career. He has published over 40 papers in international academic journals, covering diverse fields such as urban ecology, landscape ecology, and urban greening. Since 2017, Dr. Zhang has served as the Vice President of the Hong Kong Institute of Horticultural Science, actively promoting the development of the horticulture, arboriculture and landscape profession in Hong Kong. He also provides consulting services to various local organisations.

Dr. Zhang is dedicated to promoting educational innovation and advancing applied education in Hong Kong. He advocates for closer collaboration among educational institutions, industry, and other stakeholders within the "industry-academia-research" model. The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Horticulture, Arboriculture, and Landscape Management programme, which he established, is one of the first applied degree programmes in Hong Kong, emphasising the integration of theory and practice while providing extensive internship opportunities and work-based learning experiences. Launched in the academic year 2022/23, this programme marks a significant milestone in the evolution of applied higher education in Hong Kong.
