您的PhD

Each PhD is unique to the researcher. The PhD will be shaped by you and your supervisors who will guide and mentor you through your research journey. In addition to providing technical advice and support, they will support you in your development as a researcher.

You will receive a comprehensive induction at the start of the PhD where you will also get to (virtually) meet other PhD researchers. You will learn about the PhD process and be introduced to key tools in research methodology including ethics. Throughout the PhD you will have access to a comprehensive range of training and development opportunities with you in control of deciding what to focus on based on your personal training needs.

Towards the end of your first year (second year for part-time candidates) you will submit a qualifying report and undertake a viva. You will need to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the research area together with a clear research proposal for completing the PhD. This is an excellent opportunity to bring together the first stage of your PhD and demonstrate your capability to independent examiners.

Upon successful completion of the qualifying report and viva, you will progress with your research. You will have opportunities to present your work both internally and externally at leading conferences. A key outcome of a PhD is producing work of a publishable quality with the aim to submit your research to a leading journal.
At the end of the PhD you will submit your final thesis describing your research in detail. You will be examined on the thesis and a viva by examiners who will assess your creation of new knowledge, understanding of the discipline, ability to undertake research and understanding of research methodologies.
