Programme Aims

Through comprehensive product design training, encompassing computer-aided design, model making, and production development methods, students acquire the skills necessary to become proficient product designers, covering the entire process from concept to practice. Furthermore, students are exposed to cutting-edge manufacturing concepts and technologies, enabling them to excel in product definition, design, development, strategy, and branding. The program also incorporates live industry projects and internships, providing students with invaluable opportunities to collaborate with industry partners from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and around the globe, gaining firsthand insights and work experience.

Relating to the live projects with industry, an element that is firmly embedded in Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design studies at THEi, the programme encourages active engagement with all aspects of practice. This includes an understanding of the theoretical framework of the subject, practicale realities of manufacturing and the creative application to produce imaginative yet practical outcomes.

Career Prospects

Graduates will be equipped with professional knowledge of product design, awareness of new technology applications, and, marketing acumen to join the product design and development industry. You can begin your career as a designer, 3D artist, design engineer, project coordinator, project manager or product manager in various fields such as innovative product design, purchasing and merchandising, consumer electronics, digital entertainment, clocks, watches and jewelry, fashion and lifestyle products, home and kitchen products, automotive products,toys and children’s products as well as gift and premium.

  1. Additional core modules are required (with fee charged) for sub-degree graduates according to the educational background of individuals.
  2. All applicants are screened and selected by an Admission and Interview Panel. All interviews are conducted in English.

Programme Curriculum

This is a credit-based programme, which students will normally complete over 4 years (in 8 semesters).  Students are required to take 129 credit points with modules shown below and an Industrial Attachment module for work-integrated learning. To encourage lifelong learning in general and to provide students with greater flexibility, the programme will be offered through a credit-based module accumulation system with a multi-entry and multi-exit structure.

Work-integrated Learning (WIL) modules are directed industry attachments that provide powerful learning experiences by integrating theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. Students are required to complete 126 hours of Work-integrated Learning to be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design.
