Principles of Taking GE Elective Modules

a. Students who have exempted from GEC4101 Chinese 1 and GEC5102 Chinese 2 are required to take two extra GEE modules to fulfil the graduation requirement.
b. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Surveying are allowed to take GEE5103 Living with Sustainable Materials to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester One, AY 2018/19.

c. Year 3 and Year 4 students of Recreation Management/Sports Management specialisation of Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management Programme are not allowed to take GEE5106 Tree Safety Inspection & ClimbingGEE5208 Accounting for Non-Accountants and GEE5210 Essentials in People Management to fulfil the graduation requirements.  These three GEE modules will not be counted for fulfilling graduation requirement for students of Recreation Management/Sports Management specialisation even they took the module(s) in their Year 1 and/or Year 2 study.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of AY 2012/13 to AY 2015/16.
d. Students are allowed to either take GEE5305 The Art & Science of Film or GEE5416 Beyond Hollywood: Introduction to World Cinema but not both modules to fulfil the graduation requirement.  GEE5416 Beyond Hollywood: Introduction to World Cinema was phased out since Semester Two, AY 2018/19.
e. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Professional Accounting are not allowed to take GEE5308 Web Technology & E-Commerce to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from the Year-1 and Year-3 entry cohorts of AY 2018/19.  The students other than the above cohorts are allowed to take this module.
f. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Health Care Programme are allowed to take GEE5203 Corporate Social Responsibility in Action to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester One, AY 2016/17.
g. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and Management/Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and International Events Management who take MCC5211 Human Resources Management as programme elective are not allowed to take GEE5210 Essentials in People Management to fulfil the graduation requirement.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of AY 2012/13 to AY 2015/16.
h. Students are allowed to either take GEE5304 Nutrition & Health or GEE5307 Food in Daily Life but not both modules to fulfil the graduation requirement.
i. GEE5405 offered by SGEL has been renamed from “Modern Europe: History & Culture” to “The Modern World: History & Culture” with effect from Semester One, AY 2018/19.  Students who had taken the module “Modern Europe: History & Culture” before Semester One, AY 2018/19 are not allowed to take the module “The Modern World: History & Culture” to fulfil the graduation requirement.
j. GEE5415 offered by SGEL has been renamed from “Cantonese in Hong Kong Popular Culture” to “Cantonese Linguistics in Hong Kong Popular Culture” with effect from Semester Two, AY 2018/19.  Students who have taken the module “Cantonese in Hong Kong Popular Culture” before Semester Two, AY 2018/19 are not allowed to take the module “Cantonese Linguistics in Hong Kong Popular Culture” to fulfil the graduation requirement.
k. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and Management/Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and International Events Management who take MPM4200 Public Speaking as programme core/elective are not allowed to take GEE5213 The Art of Professional Speaking to fulfil the graduation requirement.
l. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts and Management are allowed to take GEE5102 Impact of Contemporary Design on Society to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from the Year-1 and Year-3 entry cohorts of AY 2018/19.  The students admitted before the above cohorts are not allowed to take this module to fulfil the graduation requirement.
m. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and Management/Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and International Events Management who take MPM5406 Translation for Public Relations as programme elective are not allowed to take GEE5407 Translation in Everyday Life (English-Chinese) to fulfil the graduation requirement.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of AY 2015/16 to AY 2019/20.
n. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Horticulture, Arboriculture and Landscape Management are not allowed to take GEE5106 Tree Safety Inspection & Climbing to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from the Year-1 and Year-3 entry cohorts of AY 2020/21.  The students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Horticulture and Landscape Management admitted before the Year-1 and Year-3 entry cohorts of AY 2020/21 are allowed to take this module to fulfil the graduation requirement.
o. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design are not allowed to take GEE5107 Land Art to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2020/21.
p. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Advertising are not allowed to take GEE5107 Land Art to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester One, AY 2021/22.
q. GEE5426 Entrepreneurship in Action is designed for students admitted via Year-3 entry. Students who take GEC4306 Entrepreneurial Mindset are not allowed to take GEE5426 Entrepreneurship in Action to fulfil the graduation requirement.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of all THEi programmes starting from AY 2012/13.
r. Year 3 and Year 4 students of Recreation Management/Sports Management specialisation of Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management Programme who take MCC5323 Entrepreneurship are not allowed to take GEE5426 Entrepreneurship in Action to fulfil the graduation requirement.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of AY 2012/13 to AY 2020/21.
s. Students of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and Management/Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Public Relations and International Events Management who take MCC5323 Entrepreneurship as programme elective are not allowed to take GEE5426 Entrepreneurship in Action to fulfil the graduation requirement.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of AY 2015/16 to AY 2020/21.
t. GEE5427 Technology & the Future of Work is designed for students admitted via Year-3 entry.  Students who take GEC4305 A.I. and Blockchain in Society & Work# are not allowed to take GEE5427 Technology & the Future of Work to fulfil the graduation requirement.  This requirement also takes effect retrospectively to the cohorts of all THEi programmes starting from AY 2012/13.
u. GEE5109 has been renamed from “Toy Design” to “Design for Fun” with effect from Semester One, AY 2022/23.  Students who have taken the module “Toy Design” before Semester One, AY 2022/23 are not allowed to take the module “Design for Fun” to fulfil the graduation requirement.
v. Students of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Building Services Engineering  are not allowed to take GEE5323 Indoor Environment Engineering to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2022/23.
w. Students of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering are not allowed to take GEE5324 Environment Engineering to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2022/23.
x. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Food Science and Safety are not allowed to take GEE5325 Advanced Topics in Food Science to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2022/23.
y. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Testing and Certification are not allowed to take GEE5326 Gemological Science to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2022/23.
z. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chinese Medicinal Pharmacy are not allowed to take GEE5327 Processing of Chinese Materia Medica to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2022/23.
aa. Students of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nutrition and Healthcare Management are not allowed to take “GEE5328 Primary Health Care & Health Promotion” to fulfil the graduation requirement with effect from Semester Two, AY 2022/23.
ab. GEE5428 從語言到生活:認識香港粵語與文化 From Language to Daily Life: Understanding Hong Kong Cantonese & Culture offered by SGEL is designed for students who are studying in Hong Kong with Putonghua (Mandarin/Chinese) as mother tongue.
# GEC4305 has been renamed from “Technology, Society & Work” to “A.I. and Blockchain in Society & Work” effective from Semester One, AY2024/25
