CIHT Seminars - Road Safety Audit & Smart Devices on Roads and Signalised Pedestrian Crossings
Forums, Workshops & Seminars
Two technical seminars related to traffic safety were jointly organized by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Faculty of Science and Technology, THEi.
30 January 2018, the first seminar was “Road Safety Audit (RSA)” delivered by Ir Julian KWONG, Director of Chaussees Limited. The concept, new global trend and practice of RSA was introduced during the talk which aims to identify and minimize safety risks through the participation of an independent audit team during the various stages of road design project.
The second seminar titled “Smart Devices on Roads and Signalised Pedestrian Crossings” was conducted by Ir C. H. WONG and Ir Shirley LEUNG from the Transport Department (TD), HKSAR, Ir Gary LEUNG and the transport group of AECOM on 5 February 2018. Ir C. H. WONG, Chief Engineer of the TD, firstly introduced the purpose and status of the pilot trial project of installing smart devices at signalized junctions to extend pedestrian flashing green time for the elderly, which is the first of its kind in the world. The topic was then followed by the introduction of the work plan of installing various traffic detectors on the major strategic routes by TD’s senior engineer, Ir Shirley LEUNG and Ir Gary LEUNG from AECOM. The traffic monitoring measurements aim to build up the big data of transport system of Hong Kong.
