Ir Dr Jimmy LI is an Associate Professor in the Department of Design and Architecture (DDA) at the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi). An enthusiastic educator with over 26 years of combined academic and industry experience, he is passionate about developing work-ready professionals through hands-on applied learning and meaningful industry partnerships. 

Before joining THEi, Ir Dr LI developed and led several professional undergraduate programmes, such as BSc (Hons) in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying and BEng (Hons) in Testing and Certification at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). Prior to his 11 years of academic career at HKMU, he gained over 15 years of practical experience in business consultancy projects, product research and development, organization performance analysis, and strategic planning in the multinational corporations and consultancy firms in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Asia. His expertise bridges industry and academia, fostering strong ties with professional bodies and employers.

Ir Dr LI’s research interests focus on Industry 4.0, Digital Transformation, Mixed Reality, and Green Materials. He has authored over 70 journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers, secured more than HK$30 million in research and programme development funds as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator, and holds several patents in the innovative technologies.

Under his guidance, students and research teams have won 23 global competition awards, including prestigious recognitions such as the Gold Medal at the 2025 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, in one applied research project; and led students to secure funding, including Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES). He actively serves in professional and community roles, including as Founder, Chair and President of initiatives with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Hong Kong, Rotary International District 3450, and various governmental appeal panels.
