Prof Jaime SAMPAIO

Professor Jaime SAMPAIO is an internationally recognised scholar in sports training and performance analysis and a Full Professor at the University Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Portugal. Between 2021 and 2026, he held senior leadership roles at UTAD as Pro-Rector and Vice-Rector for Research. He leads Elite.UTAD, where his research focuses on athlete and team performance, collective behaviour, movement variability and creativity, using advanced statistics, wearable technologies and artificial intelligence. His scientific impact includes a Scopus h-index of 69 and recognition among the world’s top 2% of scientists from 2019 to 2025. Professor SAMPAIO is a member of the Performance Advisory Board of the EuroLeague Players’ Association (ELPA), contributing scientific and methodological expertise to support professional players’ performance, recovery, rehabilitation and career development. He is also involved in national coach education programmes in basketball and football, regularly translating research into applied knowledge for coaches and practitioners. His wider professional activity includes collaborations with leading sports organisations, editorial responsibilities in international journals, and invited presentations at major scientific and coach education events worldwide.
