
THEi Work-integrated Learning (WIL) Day 2025

The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) successfully hosted “Work-Integrated Learning Day” on 20 March, 2025, at the Chai Wan campus. The event brought together industry partners, teaching staff, and students to collectively explore the crucial role of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) in nurturing future professionals, marking a significant milestone in the Institute’s ongoing collaboration with industry. Nearly one hundred industry representatives, staff, and students attended, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.
The Vice President (Academic), Professor Tsang Wai Kei, delivered the opening address, highlighting WIL as a core component of vocational and professional education. He emphasized that WIL enables students to integrate classroom knowledge with real-world work experience, equipping them with essential skills before graduation and significantly enhancing their employability. Professor Tsang also officially announced the launch of the “Work-Integrated Learning Digital Platform (WILDP),” which will provide students with digitized learning and practical experiences, while offering industry partners a convenient channel for talent discovery. Representatives from the WILDP development team were present to explain the platform’s features in detail and provide operational demonstrations.
The event featured two distinguished guest speakers: Ms. Amy Ho, Director of Human Resources at Cordis, Hong Kong, and Mr. Nelson Choi, Technical Manager at BeeXergy Consulting Limited. Ms. Ho underscored the importance of listening to students, understanding their aspirations, and providing appropriate support and training. Mr. Choi shared his positive impressions of THEi students’ work ethic and proactive attitude. Noting that WIL not only fulfil students’ learning objectives, but also meets industry talent needs through practical experience, creating a win-win situation.
To recognize organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promoting Work-Integrated Learning, THEi presented several awards during the event. Mr. Terry Kwan, Director of Human Resources at FSE Lifestyle Services Limited, received the “Outstanding Contribution Award” in recognition of his invaluable time and advice as a member of the Advisory Committee of THEi Work-Integrated Learning over the past two years. His advisory role in the “Formation and Development of a Work-Integrated Learning Hub for Diverse Programmes of THEi” project has led to significant enhancements in WIL across the Institute.
Additionally, to commend exceptional performance demonstrated by industry partners, teachers, and students through tripartite collaboration in internships, THEi established the ” THEi Work-Integrated Learning Award of Excellence,” which was presented to three outstanding teams from different programmes:
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hotel Operations Management Team: Year 4 students Mr. Henry Lee and Mr. Kester Lai; Ms. Amy Ho, Director of Human Resources at Cordis, Hong Kong; Ms. Connie Chan and Ms. Vivian Li, Lecturers from Department of Hospitality and Business Management.
- Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports and Recreation Management Team: Year 4 student Mr. Hiram Wong; Mr. Nicholas Cheung, Executive Director of Hong Kong, China Tenpin Bowling Congress; and Ms. Amy Lip, Assistant Professor from Department of Sport and Recreation.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Building Services Engineering Team: Year 4 students Mr. Andrew Law and Mr. David Wong; Mr. Henry Mak and Mr. Nelson Choi from BeeXergy Consulting Limited; and Ms. Hilda Mak, Lecturer from Department of Construction, Environment and Engineering.
The “Work-Integrated Learning Day” concluded successfully, laying a solid foundation for broader and deeper collaboration between THEi and industry partners. THEi remains committed to strengthening these partnerships and jointly nurturing future professionals equipped with specialized skills and practical experience.
