THEi Wins First Silver Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, Marking a Key Milestone in Applied Science Development

The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) won the Silver Medal at the 51ST International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva for its project “SafeGuard XRAi in Safety Management.” This singular entry marked a historic achievement for the Institute, highlighting THEi’s capabilities in applied science research on a global stage.

Professor Alan Lau Kin-tak, President of THEi, congratulated the award-winning team. He stated that this was THEi’s first participation in the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva and regarded the award as a recognition of THEi’s dedication to advancing innovative technology, marking an important milestone in the Institute’s development of applied sciences. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting academic staff in their applied research endeavours, fostering innovation, collaboration, and diversity while facilitating interdisciplinary research and practices through the development of cutting-edge technologies.

The Silver medal-winning project “SafeGuard XRAi in Safety Management” was developed under the leadership of Dr Jimmy LI Chi-ho, Associate Professor at THEi’s Department of Design and Architecture, in collaboration with Hong Yip Service Company Limited. This initiative combines Extended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to identify potential hazards in real time, assisting personnel in accessing effective and timely safety information that enhances work efficiency and decision-making accuracy.

The 51ST Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions was held from 11 to 15 March 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland. Recognised as the largest inventor exhibition in the world, it attracts participation from academic institutions, research centres, and technology companies to explore opportunities in research technology and talent development. Looking ahead, THEi will enhance the training of research talent and encourage both academic staff and students to participate in innovative research and applied R&D. This will facilitate the practical application of their findings and support Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology centre.
