(Hong Kong, 27 April 2026) The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) and Hong Yip Service Company Limited (Hong Yip) are pleased to announce that their joint project, “SafeGuard XR-AI in Safety Management”, was awarded a Silver Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, recognising the outstanding achievement of both parties in industry-academia collaboration, technology commercialisation, and real-world application.
Property management professionals frequently encounter various emergency risks. Traditional solutions often lack real-time analysis and proactive feedback, as well as intelligent systems capable of predicting and adapting to the changing environment, which increases management challenges for frontline staff. “SafeGuard XR-AI in Safety Management”, specifically designed for daily property operations and safety management, provides a deployable smart solution which aims at reforming Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) management for property practitioners. The project will be piloted at Sun Hung Kai Properties’ latest residential development, Sierra Sea in Sai Sha, as well as Mikiki and Port 33, and will be extended to broader application scenarios.
The core of the project is an innovative Extended Reality (XR) system, that blends virtual and physical environments, while integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, XR glasses and security data to digitalise the real-world scenarios, allowing practitioners to “see the unseen, secure every scene”. The platform makes data-driven decisions to provide real-time potential risk identification, intelligent inspection and immersive training, effectively preventing accidents and enhancing the safety of both residents and employees.
Professor Alan LAU Kin-tak, President of THEi, said that this “Research-Academia-Industry-Investment” collaboration precisely targets the industry’s pain points. Through the deep collaboration with Hong Yip, our research outcomes have been successfully translated into practical applied-science solutions that deliver real impact to the community. “Winning an award at our debut participation in the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is a significant achievement. This international recognition not only showcases our strength in innovative research, but also marks a major milestone in THEi’s development of applied sciences. We will continue to leverage the uniqueness of applied sciences and engage in diverse collaborations across the Government, industry, academic, and research sectors to flexibly respond to evolving societal challenges,” he added.
Mr Alkin KWONG Ching-wai, Chairman and Chief Executive of Hong Yip, stated: “Upholding Sun Hung Kai Properties’ management philosophy of ‘Building Homes with Heart,’ Hong Yip actively embraces innovative technology to enhance the services and promote the intelligence of the property management industry, ultimately creating smart communities. This collaboration between Hong Yip and THEi serves as a model for successful industry-academic synergy. It not only elevates operational efficiency and safety standards but also injects new momentum into the industry’s digital transformation. Hong Yip remains committed to delivering premium service quality through innovative smart technology and sustainable energy management. We strive to create better homes, curate superior living experiences, and build a more harmonious community together.”
Three Core Functions and Innovations of “SafeGuard XR-AI in Safety Management”
- Intelligent Inspection
Utilising XR glasses equipped with object detection and hazard recognition. During inspection, the system can instantly provide information, identify missing items and highlight safety key points to reveal potential risks.
- XR and AI Enhanced Interaction
XR glasses will be connected to building security systems in the future. Practitioners can quickly identify abnormal conditions via glasses, promptly understanding and addressing any potential hazards.
- AI-Driven Training
The system offers immersive simulations for emergency procedures in a safe environment. During actual emergencies, the fine-tuned AI acts as an on-site digital assistant, providing real-time guidance through voice and holographic prompts to ensure employees follow standard operating procedures.
The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva is one of the world’s premier annual events, with a panel of international juries evaluating approximately 1,000 inventions from 35 countries and regions. Hong Yip has received accolades at the exhibition for two consecutive years. The success of “SafeGuard XR-AI in Safety Management” not only demonstrates the effectiveness of the Company’s technology empowerment, but also recognises its efforts in connecting the Government, the industry, as well as the academic and research sectors and driving service upgrades through innovation. THEi will continue to collaborate closely with Hong Yip to explore further innovative solutions, to enhance property operations and resident experiences, supporting frontline teams, elevating safety standards, promoting wider technology application across the industry, and contributing to the development of a smarter city.
