TITLE :

Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Master of Science in Urban Forestry)

Department of Construction, Environment and Engineering

Major Duties:

The appointee shall report to the Programme Leader and the Head of Department and engage in teaching and learning activities, develop programme curriculum and teaching, learning and assessment materials, support students in their learning, participate in academic and scholarly activities of the Department, and undertake academic and administrative support services for the Master of Science in Urban Forestry (MScUF) programme.

The appointee is expected to contribute to the planning, development, implementation, and periodic review of the MScUF programme.  The appointee will take part in teaching and supervising capstone applied projects and student work, delivering a high-quality programme, and leading and participating in scholarly activities, including but not limited to research, consultancy, networking, and collaboration with industry partners to promote the Institute and the programme.  S/He will also be expected to maintain close contact with industry, commerce, and other educational institutions on collaborative arrangements to promote and ensure the relevance and excellence of the programme.

The appointee will also assist in the formulation of learning and teaching strategies and curriculum development in at least one of the following modules:

  • Capstone Applied Project
  • Culture Conservation & Management in Urban Forestry
  • Entrepreneurial Leadership in Urban Forestry
  • Geographical Information System & Tree Inventory Management
  • Innovative Technologies & Applications in Urban Forestry
  • Plant Culture
  • Recreational Management & Planning in Urban Forests
  • Sustainable Urban Forestry & Arboriculture
  • Traditional Chinese Yuanlin Theory & Practice
  • Urban Ecosystem Ecology
  • Urban Forest Ecophysiology
  • Urban Forestry Policy & Governance
  • Urban Planning & Green Infrastructure


Requirements:

The successful candidate should have a recognised Doctoral degree in Horticulture, Geography, Environmental Science, Botany, Ecology, Landscape Management, Urban Planning or a related discipline, together with solid teaching experience at the tertiary level.  The candidate should also have good professional standing with strong industry networks and achievements in professional practice and applied research activities.  The candidate should possess a strong track record of research publications.  A proven record of collaboration with industry or professional bodies would be an advantage.

S/He should have good interpersonal and communication skills, and a high level of proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, including Putonghua.  S/He must also fulfil one of the following criteria:

(a) Mother tongue/language is Putonghua; or
(b) Received a recognised Bachelor’s degree or above for which the Medium of Instruction (MOI) was Putonghua; or
(c) At least 3 years’ work experience in Chinese Mainland or other Putonghua-speaking countries or regions; or
(d) Attained one of the following qualifications:
      (i) Grade B, Level 2 or above in the Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSC) – Putonghua Proficiency Test administered by the State Language Commission; or
     (ii) Level 3 or above in the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (Putonghua) administered by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEEA) or equivalent.


Notes:

(1) The Medium of Instruction of the MScUF programme is Putonghua.
(2) The appointee may be required to perform duties at different locations and work irregular hours, shifts, and weekends, as necessary.
(3) The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
(4) The appointee will work at the Chai Wan Campus and/or nearby teaching premises.
