Ir Capt Michael CHAN completed a MSc International Relations (University of London, UK), and holds a MSocSc International Economic Development (OUHK), and MBusiness (University of Newcastle, Australia).
Ir Capt CHAN has over 40 years of experience in the Hong Kong Aviation industry. He joined the Civil Aviation Department as an Air Traffic Control Assistant III in August 1983. Ir Capt CHAN was appointed as a Pilot in the then Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force (renamed as the Government Flying Service in 1993) in August 1990. He was promoted to Senior Pilot in November 2000 and to Chief Pilot in January 2006. Ir Capt CHAN has been the Controller, Government Flying Service since March 2008 and retired in September 2019. He has rich administration and management experience at the senior and strategic level. Ir Capt CHAN was award the Medal for Bravery (Silver) (MBS) and the Government Flying Service Medal for Meritorious Service (GMSM) in recognition of his exception and meritorious service to the community in 2007 and 2005, respectively.
In addition, Ir Capt CHAN participated actively in the work of the voluntary groups. He is the Aviation Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Transportation, China since 2008, the Honorary Councilor of the Hong Kong Life Saving Society since 2010 and the Commandant of the Hong Kong Air Cadets Corps since 2017.
