Programme Aims

In recent years, a strong demand for sports and recreation professionals has been constituted by the rapid development of the sports and recreation industry in Hong Kong. This programme aims to develops students’ professional knowledge in human structure, movements, kinesiology, and exercise science, and competencies in the demonstration and implementation of contemporary practical skills in sports therapy.
Nurtures students’ analytical and clinical reasoning skills in injury identification, sports rehabilitation, and exercise training programme development, and the evidence-based applications of modalities in managing and preventing sports injuries, as well as solving sports therapy-related problems in both clinical and on-field scenarios.
Focuses on broadening students’ horizons through the learning and applications of smart technologies, such as using wearable sensors and artificial intelligence in testing, monitoring, and decision making, and the placement opportunities in both clinical settings and various sports events or competitions.

Specific Requirements
For Year 1 Entry :
- For HKDSE, a maximum of two Applied Learning (ApL) subjects can be counted for admission purpose. Relevant ApL subjects include: Sports Coaching and Management, Hospitality Services in Practice, Health Care Practice, Exercise Science and Health Fitness, Events Planning and Operation, Fundamental Health Care, Exercise and Fitness Coaching / Sports and Fitness Coaching, Rehabilitation Care Practice and eSports Technology / eSports Technology and Management.
- Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
- Applicants are required to declare any criminal convictions that may prevent them from participating in WIL placement or affect their eligibility for full professional membership with The SST. This declaration should be made prior to enrolment in the programme.

Programme Curriculum
This is a credit-based programme, which students will normally complete over 4 years (in 8 semesters). Students are required to take 120 credit points with modules as shown below and an Industrial Attachment module for work-integrated learning. To encourage lifelong learning in general, and to provide students with greater flexibility, the programme will be offered through a credit-based module accumulation system with a multi-entry and multi-exit structure.
The Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Therapy programme prepares students to prevent, recognise and evaluate, manage, treat and when appropriate refer onwards for various sports and exercise related injuries. Students will also learn how to design and evaluate training programmes for rehabilitation purposes.
As professionals in sports therapy, graduates are expected to solve problems that arise during the process of rehabilitation, and to understand the education and professional practice issues in the sports therapy area. This programme is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists (UK) and offers the eligibility for full membership of the Society, at the appropriate fee, on successful completion and award of the BSocSc (Honours) in Sports Therapy.

Work-integrated Learning (WIL) modules are directed industry attachments that provide learning experiences by integrating theoretical with it applications in the workplace. Students are required to complete at least 250 hours of WIL (including at least 170 hours of clinical works and 80 hours on-field supports) to be eligible for the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Therapy.
