In high-density cities such as Hong Kong, aging buildings pose safety risks. Redevelopment is unsustainable, and rehabilitation is often neglected, complicated by knowledge deficits and bid-rigging. Dr Lau Wai Kin, Elvis, of the Department of Design and Architecture, presented the study that develops machine learning models to predict rehabilitation costs, thus enhancing transparency for multi-storey residential repairs in a research webinar entitled “Developing Machine Learning Models for Building Rehabilitation Cost Prediction” on 21 May 2024.

The webinar was attended by 455participants, of both students and teachers, from THEi and the VTC.
