THEi Welcomes the Policy Address to Strengthen Applied Science Education and Talent Development

The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) welcomes the initiatives to strengthen applied science education and establish Hong Kong as an international education hub.

As an associate member of the Alliance of Universities of Applied Sciences, THEi is in the process of transitioning to become a University of Applied Sciences. The Institute appreciates the Government’s support for the Alliance’s research initiatives and the collaboration with leading polytechnic institutions in Guangdong Province to jointly establish a communication platform for the Greater Bay Area, focusing on cultivating more applied talents through an integration of theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

In terms of attracting more international research and teaching talents, as well as students, THEi will actively cooperate with the Government in implementing relevant educational initiatives. This includes supporting the establishment of a task force on Study in Hong Kong, promoting the “Hong Kong: Your World-class Campus” publicity campaign, and organising “Study Tour in Hong Kong” activities, to facilitate the promotion of the “Study in Hong Kong” brand.

Additionally, the Institute welcomes the Government’s initiative to designate new commercial or other land this year for the construction of dormitories. This will address the increasing demand for accommodation from non-local students and promote Hong Kong as an international hub for post-secondary education and high-calibre talents.
