THEi Launches Its First Master’s Degree in Business Administration in Digital Transformation in Collaboration with Cyberport to Cultivate Talent in Digital Transformation

With the “National Fourteenth Five-Year Plan” clearly supporting Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology (I&T) centre, the Hong Kong SAR Government is actively implementing relevant policies to drive the upgrading and transformation of traditional industries. This includes the establishment of the “Hong Kong New Industrialisation Development Alliance” to foster closer collaboration among the Government, industry, academia, research, and investment sectors. This move is set to accelerate societal demand for talent in the innovative technology and digital transformation industries.

In response to the growing demand for talent in innovation and digital transformation, the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) has launched its first Master’s programme in Business Administration in Digital Transformation, to address the talent gap in industrial upgrading. THEi is also honoured to collaborate with Cyberport to nurture digital technology talent for the local market, the Greater Bay Area, and countries along the Belt and Road.

Cyberport Enhances the Programme with Innovation Case Studies and Internship Opportunities

According to the Government’s 2023 Manpower Projection report released earlier, the demand for new job roles related to digitalised operations is expected to rise. With Hong Kong facing a severe labour shortage over the next five years, the report calls for collaboration between the public and private sectors to tackle these challenges and improve both the quality and quantity of the local workforce.

THEi’s collaboration with Cyberport is directly addressing market and industry demand for professionals in digital transformation. Cyberport will contribute industry insights and case studies from its community enterprises and co-host joint seminars at Cyberport’s campus, where students can engage with real-world business scenarios and solutions. Additionally, Cyberport will support and promote internship opportunities within the campus, assist in organising networking events, and actively explore innovative projects aligned with the programme’s objectives.

Master’s Programme in Digital Transformation: Enhancing Digital Skills and Analytical Capabilities

The programme aims to equip students with the expertise on how digital technologies can leverage big data for analysis, reshaping business and operational models to implement more precise marketing strategies. The curriculum offers two specialised streams: “Digital Business and Leadership” and “Digital Technology and Innovation.” Students will systematically learn about new trends and methods in corporate transformation management in the digital age, preparing them for development in innovation and facilitating the digital transformation of traditional enterprises.

THEi Launches First Master’s Degree Programme; President Prof Alan Lau Aims for Diverse Business-School Collaboration

Prof Alan Lau Kin-tak, President of THEi, revealed that this is the first Master’s Degree programme offered by THEi. “As Hong Kong’s flagship for digital technology and a core base for artificial intelligence development, Cyberport cultivates diverse talents in innovation, entrepreneurship, and business. THEi has always emphasised the integration of practical application with theoretical knowledge, infusing digital technology materials into the curriculum to promote digital transformation across various industries, which aligns with Cyberport’s vision,” Prof Alan Lau stated. He hopes to continue exploring and seeking more diverse solutions to strengthen business-school collaboration, nurturing a new generation of professionals adept in digital technologies for the market.

Dr Rocky Cheng Chung-ngam, CEO of Cyberport, believes that talent is the key driving force behind Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology hub. “As the primary resource for technological innovation, talent is crucial for propelling Hong Kong toward becoming an international I&T centre. THEi is an institution that upholds innovation, professionalism, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Cyberport is pleased to collaborate with THEi to cultivate applied professionals who possess both a digital mindset and practical skills, addressing the urgent market demand for talent in innovation and industrial digital transformation. Together, we strive to build a more dynamic and thriving innovation ecosystem in Hong Kong.”
