The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong held its Graduation Ceremony 2025 from 22 November to 26 November, conferring academic qualifications to nearly 1,300 graduates.
In his opening remarks, Prof Alan LAU Kin-tak, President of THEi, congratulated all graduates and expressed his appreciation to both the graduates and their parents for their faith in the Institute. This faith allowed the graduates to achieve their accomplishments and embark on a new chapter in their lives.
Prof LAU pointed out that since its establishment in 2012, THEi has aligned with the vision of the HKSAR Government, dedicating itself to promoting the development of applied science and technology education in Hong Kong. This year, the team from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion Design programme has designed and produced a collection of neckties and scarves for the Chief Executive and his team to be worn during the Policy Address 2025, recognising the team’s creativity and professional ideas.
2025 marks a historic year for THEi. The institute not only launches new courses and teaching resources for the 2025/26 academic year but also welcomes a record number of students while advancing several initiatives for internationalisation. Among these initiatives are the partnerships established with Aston University in the UK and Flinders University in Australia respectively, aiming to provide seamless pathways for students to connect with offshore doctoral degree programmes. Additionally, the Institute hosted its inaugural Belt and Road Leadership Forum on Applied Science and Vocational Education, promoting collaboration and exchange between regional institutions and industry experts.
The Institute is preparing to transition into a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) in 2026. As a pioneer in applied science, he expressed gratitude to all industry partners for their support and is dedicated to nurturing “work-ready” graduates with professional skills to support the development of industries in Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, and globally.
He said that the pace of social change and technological development is far faster than we can imagine, and simply adhering to tradition will only lead to backwardness and stagnation. He encouraged the graduates, saying, “Being willing to try, to innovate, and to take responsibility towards family, friends, loved ones, and society is the attitude we should adopt when facing challenges and work today.”
