Funding Opportunity
Graduates may be employed as assistant engineers, graduate engineers, civil, structural and geotechnical engineers, project coordinators, site agents and project managers in government departments (such as departments under Development Bureau and Environmental Protection Department), public utilities (such as railways and electric companies), consultancies, construction companies, and relevant suppliers and manufacturers.
1. Can I submit an application?
You can submit an application in the capacity of a principal investigator or project leader if you are a full-time THEi academic staff. Individual funding schemes may have additional eligibility requirements.
2. How do I submit an application?
Click the scheme that you are interested in. Read the application information carefully, then download and complete the application form. Some funding schemes may also ask for other supporting documents.
Notify your immediate supervisor by email and follow other internal procedures as indicated by your Department. You may also refer to the Rules regarding research grant application and eligibility.
The completed application form and other related documents should be electronically submitted to the SOPHIA system.

If you do not have a SOPHIA user account, email the Research Office to apply for one: thei-ro@thei.edu.hk.
4. What happens after I have submitted my application to SOPHIA?
Your application will go through the internal review and institutional endorsement procedures.
We will contact you if clarifications or revisions are necessary. This is to ensure that the application complies with the funder’s and THEi’s requirements.
Institutional endorsement is required before external submission. The Research Office will submit the endorsed application to the funder.
5. When will I know the application result?
It varies by funding schemes. In general, it takes about 6 months to obtain the result.
The Research Office will notify you by email once the result is announced.

External Research Involvement FAQ (for THEi staff only)
I will be involved in research projects led by external parties, are there any procedures to follow?
THEi staff members who intend to participate, in the capacity of Co-I / Co-PI / project team member, in a research project led by external parties should email his/her immediate supervisor and follow other internal procedures as indicated by your Department.
